Hello! Some updates and caveats.
I'm currently in the thick of my final law school exams—my last ones ever. I have two remaining, Criminal Procedure and Gender and the Law, so please forgive the shorter Substack this week. That said, I have several longer pieces in the works that just need a few finishing touches, including guides to Brooklyn, Southern Italy, and Cartagena—for those of you planning a summer getaway.
Meanwhile, I’ll be spending the summer indoors studying for the July bar exam. If any lawyers are reading, I’m all ears for tips. I’ve also been thinking about writing a piece reflecting on law school as a whole, sharing some of my experiences and any insights I’ve picked up along the way.
For now, I’ve been finding joy in small home updates, so this week’s piece is dedicated to some home decor finds I’ve been eyeing (and buying), all under $100.
Handprinted Fabric ($12 per yard). I have been hunting for a striped tablecloth, but with all of the ones I love ranging from $100 - $200, I remembered I could probably just buy fabric and hem the edges. I love these prints.
Wendy Red Star, Delegation ($65). Delegation is the first comprehensive monograph by Apsáalooke/Crow artist Wendy Red Star, whose vivid, witty work reimagines historical narratives through a feminist, Indigenous lens. I picked it up at the Park Avenue Armory Photo Show, drawn in by the bold colors. It’s full of powerful self-portraits, collages, and archival interventions that challenge how Native life is represented.
Pacific Blue and Red Double Weave - Handwoven Rope Door Mat Rug ($60).
Butter Yellow Butter Dish ($37). Major impulse purchase but I have no regrets, plus it comes with a little butter knife!
Touch Table Lamp ($49). I find these cordless table lamps really helpful for studying, filming, etc. This one comes in so many cute colors.
I have butter dishes on the brain. A few on etsy I found: Melamine Butter Dish ($43). Space Age Design 1970s Butter Dish ($23), Stainless Steel Butter Dish ($34).
Harlie Brown Studio Brown & Yellow Star Delights Wiggle Mug ($65).
Schoolhouse x Clare V.® Yves Cast Metal Catch All ($59). These are just too cute!
Double Bracelet / Watch Stand ($36.84). I’ve been wearing a lot more bracelets lately, so I decided to find a little bracelet stand. I wanted something simple, and this one is handmade and perfect.
Stockholm 2025 Side table, pine veneer natural ($70). I need everything from the 96-piece Stockholm 2025 IKEA drop.
Omar/Raawii Bowl ($44). One of my absolute favorite new home decor purchases.
I'm learning to sew, and that fabric is exactly what I've been looking for!
Congratulations on finishing law school!!! I treated studying for the bar like a 9-5 job with weekly goals and daily goals. If I finished my daily goal early, I got to cut out early and go play outside for the rest of the afternoon. Not a ground breaking tip, but it really made my bar studying experience less than miserable and the "game" of trying to reach the daily/weekly goal was a nice motivation. Also, because I'm a visual person, the last 1-2 weeks of studying I bought a huge note pad and practiced writing out a flow chart of the laws for each section of the exam (and used a different color pen for each section to help with recall later). Good luck!!
