Everything I wore in Mexico
A primary color love story.
For my final spring break of law school, I went to Mexico to visit my family. My mom’s side of the family hails from Mazatlán, Sinaloa — a beachside port town on Mexico’s western coast. Most of my family still lives there, and I used to spend two to three months at a time visiting my abuela, tías, tíos, and cousins.
Mazatlán holds a very special place in my heart.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to fly directly to Mazatlán, so my options were layovers in Texas, Arizona, or Mexico City. I decided to spend a few solo days in Mexico City before heading to Mazatlán. Opportunistically, I decided to use this layover dilemma to cash in on some solo time. I'm an independent person who thrives on alone time. It's how I recharge and reset. I also love the freedom to set my own schedule: eating when I want to eat, lingering in front of a building for as long as I like to take photos, or spending hours shopping without feeling rushed.
Mexico City felt like the perfect place to ease into solo travel. I've been there before, so I feel comfortable navigating the city. I also have friends and some distant relatives there in case anything went wrong. The city is so full of life yet still offers moments of calm and solitude.
The trip was divine, I devoured the city. Figuratively and spiritually. There’s so much crossover between my personal color palette (primary colors) and Mexico itself — it felt serendipitous.
I'll be posting my “Primary School” guide to CDMX in the next few days — I’m just waiting on some film to get developed. If anyone wants Mazatlán recommendations, comment below or send me a DM.
Now, let’s get into the outfits.
Mexico City
Day 1: On my first day, I arrived late in the afternoon and changed into something comfortable for some shopping and walking. The warmth felt incredible, so I took advantage of it and wore a skirt. When I packed this Wray skirt, I specifically planned to pair it with a navy top — part of my effort to break away from my usual white T-shirt and colorful bottom routine.
This Le Bon Shoppe tee is my current favorite. It’s made from a heavier-weight cotton that doesn’t show bra lines yet still feels lightweight and soft. The sleeve length is perfect. I especially liked how these two shades of blue worked together, especially when paired with my yellow flats — which might just be my favorite shoes for long city walks

Day 2: I woke up early on my second day in CDMX and hit the ground running. It was a big day for shopping and culture — I visited galleries, the Biblioteca Vasconcelos, and the Saturday market in San Ángel.
Mexico City is more modest than northern cities in Mexico, so I wanted to dress appropriately. I stuck with my favorite pants and these jelly flats that, somehow, didn’t give me blisters despite my 20k-step day.

I picked up this red two-toned bag from the store Utilitario Mexicano, an absolute must if your in CDMX. They ship to the US but it seems their prices are much higher online than in-store. Here is the hand-loomed bag that I purchased in a slightly different shade. I also added some similar bags that I found on Etsy below.
At night, I switched to something casual but with a little flair for a BBQ with some friends from Colombia and Argentina. It was my first proper Argentine Asado — an experience I now understand is equal parts delicious meal and social event — and afterward, we went out for drinks. I only packed one pair of “going out” shoes: the sparkly tinsel blue heels I scored on sale at Miista last year. Wow, have I gotten my money’s worth! They’re such a statement, yet somehow perfectly in step with my usual color palette. They’ve become my trusty, can't-fail party shoes. It got a little chilly at night so I am so happy I packed this cashmere cardigan from Theory, that I just always had tucked away in my bag.

Day 3: On my last day and travel day, I wore my favorite jeans, that are perfectly straight yet baggy and sit low rise on me. I tested these new sandals from the K. Jacques x Ciao Lucia collab, which are adorable but a bit stiff.

Mazatlan
Day 4: Touchdown in Mazatlan. I arrived at my abuela’s house and could not have been happier to be here. I spent the day going to my favorite coffee shop, Casa Hindi, to do some homework and catch up on emails. I am so happy I packed this long sleeve from J.Crew as there was a light sea breeze in the air.

Day 5: Island Day! Margaritas! Tostadas!

Day 6: Spent the day at the beach reading and relaxing. Wore my new dolphin necklace that I snagged at the beach. Then to a dinner party with some family and friends. A perfect day.

Day 7: Spent the morning going to the Mercado and then seeing some family. For dinner, I tried a new restaurant with my abuela and was able to finally wear my new floral pleated dress.

Day 8: We traveled north to a beach town called San Miguel and I had the best aguachile of my life. Kept it casual.

Day 9: Strolls around the historic downtown with my abuela called for my favorite sample sale find, this Merlette NYC dress, that I snagged for $150. Merlette was kind enough to give me a code (MYA15) if you're so inclined.

Day 10: Last day in Mexico and I was dressed as a lady in blue.
